Today Wyse has posted its long awaited WTOS 7.0.0_30 on their commerce website. This means, that all customers with a valid maintenance contract can download this new code for free.
Is it worth though? Does it contain new features that are worth upgrading? The answer is a big YES in all parts.
This version has so many new features that it was even checked by the US goverment if it is still allowed to export the code. Luckily it is!
So, what's new?
Wyse has completely updated the code with a new GUI, a new ICA client, a new RDP client, a new... stop. Let's take a look at all features more slowly.
The new code is available for S-, V-, C- and R-class based units. Although for S10 the code does not fit in the flash, it is still possible to get this working with a new net boot feature. Using this, some basic code is stored locally and this loads the rest at boottime over the network. As the firmware is only 4MB in size, this isn't a big issue.
But the two most important new features are for sure the new ICA or HDX client which is the same one used for the Xenith unit and the new RDP 7 compatible client. Having a RDP 7 client on a non Windows plattform shifts Wyse on the next floor in the market. All other competitors with Non-Windows based units have to rely on RDesktop which is RDP 5.2 compliant. Read on for all the new features:
