New Wyse Thin OS Firmware Version Released

WTOS - Rocking fast and virus immune

Wyse has released a new Thin OS version soon. It is version 7.1_122. This is a maintenance release, so if you have a valid maintenance you are able to download it for free now via the Wyse commerce website.

These are the new features:
- WDM HAgent redesign
- CMOS central management: you can easily pull and push the CMOS via wnos.ini settings
- Wild card certificates
- VMware View client security updates
- Wyse VDA 2.0 support

One more thing I just saw in the latest code was, that if you want to remote shadow the device via VNC or WDM and you do not have a VNCpassword defined, it will fail.
Looks like this is part of the higher security settings Thin OS is coming with in this release.
Another security related topic is the new WDM Hagent implementation. Wyse has reworked the HAgent communication to make it more secure and spoof-proven.

WTOS 7 finally launched

WTOS - Rocking fast and virus immune

Today Wyse has posted its long awaited WTOS 7.0.0_30 on their commerce website. This means, that all customers with a valid maintenance contract can download this new code for free.

Is it worth though? Does it contain new features that are worth upgrading? The answer is a big YES in all parts.
This version has so many new features that it was even checked by the US goverment if it is still allowed to export the code. Luckily it is!

So, what's new?
Wyse has completely updated the code with a new GUI, a new ICA client, a new RDP client, a new... stop. Let's take a look at all features more slowly.

The new code is available for S-, V-, C- and R-class based units. Although for S10 the code does not fit in the flash, it is still possible to get this working with a new net boot feature. Using this, some basic code is stored locally and this loads the rest at boottime over the network. As the firmware is only 4MB in size, this isn't a big issue.

But the two most important new features are for sure the new ICA or HDX client which is the same one used for the Xenith unit and the new RDP 7 compatible client. Having a RDP 7 client on a non Windows plattform shifts Wyse on the next floor in the market. All other competitors with Non-Windows based units have to rely on RDesktop which is RDP 5.2 compliant. Read on for all the new features:

Tech Docs: Change in VNC parameter for WTOS

WTOS - Rocking fast and virus immune

Hi,

in the latest versions of WTOS Wyse has changed the way the MaxVNCD parameter is working.
Now you have to use MaxVNCD=1 to enable shadowing and MaxVNCD=0 to disable. Yes/No is no longer supported.

I will integrate this in the next ConfGen release.

UPDATE: The new ConfGen version 6.0.08 is released and has this fix included. Feel free to download it here

Yours
Thomas

VDI Deployment on WTOS

WTOS - Rocking fast and virus immune

Executive Brief

For those who are in the desktop delivery game and have not been living under a rock virtualised desktops are the hottest IT property at the moment. The need to centralise, provide easier to mange and higher available computing environments while decreasing the amount of energy organisations use has caused an IT "aligning of the suns" for Thin Clients.

Tech Docs: Blazer fails to read wnos.ini with Rapport on the network

WTOS - Rocking fast and virus immune Issue:
Introducing Rapport 4.4.1 in an environment with an existing Wyse Thin OS (Blazer) terminal deployment stops the terminals receiving the wnos.ini file

Fact:
Wyse Thin OS when deployed with the 161 and 162 option tag defines where to locate the configuration file, Rapport overrides the ability of Blazer to find the wnos.ini file.
