Welcome To FreeWyseMonkeys

We love thin client terminals here at the free monkeys. In fact we love server based computing in general. But when first getting into Wyse thin client there is not enough good information....well the monkeys will share what they know with you!

This is obviously a new site and still young in its content. At this stage all topics and content will be broken down by OS, so if you are looking for a question on a particular thin client be sure and search by that OS. If you are new to thin client a good starting point would be here. Device management software is also a separate topic. Key areas of this site are:

• Content by operating system
• Technical Forums
• Downloads

It is hoped to also include a knowledge base at some stage however there are limited resources right now for the site so if we get enough interest we may get this going to. Of course feel free to give as any feedback on what you would like to see.

Tech Docs: XPe: German MUI and Integrating into Active Directory
Windows XPe - 9150SE, 941G, S90, V90 Mangelsdorff writes "If you change the MUI of a V90L (even newest Build 596) to German and take the device into the domain then you will face problems at logon to the device:
- long time until logon
- taskbar not visible (only a line) and not functional

There is a FIX available from Wyse which solves the problem."

Tech Docs: Using PXE without IP Helpers
Wyse Device Management
Issue:

Imaging Wyse devices with PXE across WAN or VLAN requires the use of IP helpers and it is not always possible to configure the required network changes on switches or routers.

Fact:

The PXE RFC requires that the boot server receive a DHCP request packet from a client to the boot server. This UDP packet needs to be explicitly forwarded by a router or layer 3 switch to traverse the network. A DHCP relay or IP helper is used to forward the DHCP request to a central DHCP server and PXE boot server.

Details:

Both the boot server and DHCP server are both listening on the same port (UDP 66) for the same packet. The DHCP server replies with an acknowledgement and the PXE boot server will reply with the details of the location of the boot server.

Tech Docs: Installing Wyse Device Manager 4.5.3 with SQL 2005 Express
Wyse Device Management Issue:
Wyse Device Manger (WDM) Workgroup edition comes bundled with the Microsoft Desktop Engine 2000 (MSDE 2000) and many administrators would like the database to be hosted on the newer SQL 2005 Express Edition.

Fact:
WDM 4.5.3 has native support for SQL 2005 and can easily be used with SQL 2005. Older 4.5.x versions may still be used with SQL 2005 however additional installation steps are required.

Tech Docs: Creating a Simple XP RDP Kiosk
Windows XPe - 9150SE, 941G, S90, V90 Issue:
It is required to create a locked down Kiosk to connect to a Terminal Server session with RDP

Fact:
Wyse Xpe and NTe terminals can be locked down and use other applications as a shell for RDP. This does require some special consideration for the user account that logs in.

VDI Deployment on WTOS
WTOS - Blazer 1200LE, 1125SE, S10 & V10L Executive Brief
For those who are in the desktop delivery game and have not been living under a rock virtualised desktops are the hottest IT property at the moment. The need to centralise, provide easier to mange and higher available computing environments while decreasing the amount of energy organisations use has caused an IT "aligning of the suns" for Thin Clients.
